Video identification is a method whereby the capability of a witness to identify an offender after examining numerous similar video clippings is tested. Each clipping will show the suspect and a number of other people of broadly similar appearance in similar circumstances. This method is now considered as a primary method of identification. The Codes of Practice to the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984, lays down the procedure to be followed in video identification.
