Video Privacy Protection Act Law and Legal Definition
Video Privacy Protection Act of 1988 or Bork Bill is a federal law preventing videotape rental stores from selling or releasing a list of the videotapes which an individual has rented without that person's consent or a court order. The statute was named the Bork Bill for the reason that Congress passed the bill after a newspaper published a list of videotapes that Supreme Court nominee Robert H. Bork had rented.
