Virtue Ethics is an approach to ethics that focuses on the character of the actor rather than on the nature of the act or its consequences. This is in contrast to deontology, which emphasizes duties or rules and consequentialism, which emphasizes the consequences of actions. Plato and Aristotle are the founding fathers of virtue ethics. This approach received its fullest expression in the works of Aristotle.
