Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response [VIPR] Law and Legal Definition
Visible Intermodal Prevention and Response (VIPR) refer to a team created and deployed by the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), to enhance the security on rail and mass transit systems in U.S. Generally, (VIPR) shall consist of federal air marshals, surface transportation security inspectors, transportation security officers, behavior detection officers and explosives detection canine teams. The function of VIPR team include :
to supplement existing security resources;
to provide deterrent presence and detection capabilities; and
to introduce an element of unpredictability to disrupt potential terrorist planning activities.
Over the past two years, VIPR teams have increased security at key transportation facilities in urban areas around the country, including New York City, Buffalo and Syracuse, N.Y., Los Angeles, Boston and Providence, R.I.
