Voluntary Pilot Law and Legal Definition
Voluntary pilot refer to a ship pilot controlling a ship with owner’s consent. s/he is regarded as the servant of the ship owner. [Texaco Trinidad, Inc. v. Afran Transport Co., 538 F. Supp. 1038, 1043 (D. Pa. 1982)].
Under the ordinary rules of respondeat superior, the shipowner is also responsible for the actions of the voluntary pilot. [Beene v. Terrebonne Wireline Services, Inc., 1992 U.S. Dist. LEXIS 11917 (D. La. 1992)].
