Waif Law and Legal Definition
Waif refers to an object that has been found and unclaimed. In criminal law, waif means a stolen article that has been thrown away by a thief out of fear. If a waif is seized by a public officer or a private person before the owner reclaims then the property moves to the state in trust for the true owner who may regain it after proving his/her ownership.
