Wellness Workshop Law and Legal Definition
A wellness workshop is a benefit provided to employees by some employers to promote the employees' physical and mental well-being. Wellness workshops may cover a variety of topics, such as assisting workers to quit smoking, help workers to manage stress, and education on drug and alcohol addiction.
Employers realize the benefits of maintaining healthy and fit employees, since studies have shown that workers with unhealthy lifestyles are:
- More likely to miss work
- More likely to be involved in on-the-job accidents
- More likely to file a worker's compensation claim
- Less productive
There are no laws requiring employers to provide wellness workshops, they are offered on a voluntary basis. However, there are laws governing employer-provided insurance coverage for those issues dealt with in wellness workshops.
