Wharfinger is a person who owns or keeps a wharf for the purpose of receiving and shipping goods. It is an archaic term used to refer to the keeper or owner of a wharf. A wharfinger may receive merchandise and forward or deliver the to the consignee.
A wharfinger has the right to condemn any property necessary for the construction and maintenance of facilities for the receipt or discharge of freight or passengers. [Cal Pub Util Code § 619].
