Whipsaw Law and Legal Definition
Whipsaw, as used in the financial context refer to a condition where a security's price heads in one direction, but then is followed quickly by a movement in the opposite direction. The term is derived from the push and pull action used by lumberjacks while cutting wood with whipsaw. A trader is said to be whipsawed if he or she buys just before prices fall and sells just before prices rise.
