Year and thereafter from year to year refers to a phrase used in tenancy agreements. The effect of the phrase is that a tenant has a fixed-term tenancy for the first year, followed by a yearly periodic tenancy. For example, ‘This agreement is binding upon the successors and assigns of the parties hereto and shall continue in force for one year and thereafter from year to year upon the same terms.’
