General Execution Law and Legal Definition
General execution is an ordinary execution issued upon a judgment. It is a court's written order commanding the sheriff to satisfy a judgment out of the property of a debtor. The court directs the sheriff to levy upon property of the defendant which is not exempt in such amount as to satisfy the judgment. It is distinguished from a special execution, as in a mortgage foreclosure, where the writ directs levy upon the property covered by the mortgage.
