Grandparent Application [Patent] Law and Legal Definition
Grandparent application in the context of patents refers to the first filed application in a chain of at least three continuation or continuation in part patent applications. Patent application is an inventor's request for a patent, filed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and accompanied by a specification, drawings, the filing fee, and an oath or a declaration. Continuing application is a patent application that is filed while the parent application is pending and that carries on prosecution of some or all of the original application.
