Gun Possession Law and Legal Definition
Gun possession laws refer to the laws that control and regulate possession of guns. Most states have laws that control the possession of guns and other weapons. For example, state of California possesses some of the most restrictive gun carry, possession, and purchase laws in the United States. All firearms sales including private and gun show sales, transfers or loans, must go through a California licensed firearms dealer. An application for sale or transfer must be made with a licensed California gun dealer before any firearm may be sold or transferred. Normally in order to possess a gun the person should have a valid license (hand gun safety certificate). Open carry in California is restricted to areas where discharge of firearm would be legal, such as hunting and recreational shooting areas. It is against the law to sell guns or ammunition to underage individuals.
