Hague Adoption Certificate Law and Legal Definition
Hague adoption certificate is a certificate issued by the U.S. Department of State. This certificate officially states and certifies that a U.S. adoption has been completed in accordance with the Hague Adoption Convention and the Intercountry Adoption Act of 2002. Such certificates are issued when a child emigrates from the U.S. to another convention country.
To apply for a Hague Adoption Certificate, the interested party must complete Form DS-5509 – Application for U.S. Hague Adoption Certificate and submit it to the U.S. Department of State’s Office of Children’s Issues. The application should be accompanied by supporting documents.
The Hague Adoption Certificate entitles the adoption to recognition in the U.S. and other Convention countries.
