Haybote means an allowance of wood or material that is a given to a tenant to repair his/her hedges or fences, or to make farming implements. It is a French term. This term is derived from ‘haye,’ meaning a hedge, and ‘bote,’ meaning allowance.
The right or privilege that a tenant enjoys under haybote is for life or for many years. It is also termed hedgebote.
