Health Literacy Law and Legal Definition
Health literacy means an individual's capability to read, understand and use health care information to make good decisions in relation to treatment and to follow treatment instructions. It is an important element of health communication, medical product safety, and oral health.
According to 42 USCS § 295p(21), the term "health literacy" means the degree to which an individual has the capacity to obtain, communicate, process, and understand health information and services in order to make appropriate health decisions.
