Health Professionals Recovery Program Law and Legal Definition
HPRP stands for Health Professionals Recovery Program. These programs are administered by state Departments of Health/Bureaus of Health. These are programs adopted by states to supports the recovery from substance abuse and/or mental illness of participants. The participants of such programs are health professionals. Health professionals include physicians, nurses, physicians assistants, dentists, chiropractors, and many other classes of health care providers including:
- Audiologist
- Allopathic Physician (M.D.)
- Athletic Trainers
- Marriage & Family Therapist
- Nursing Home Administrator
- Occupational Therapist and Occupational Therapy Assistant
- Optometrist
- Osteopathic Physician & Surgeon (DO)
- Physician's Assistant
- Podiatric Physician
- Professional Counselor
- Registered Nurse (R.N.), Licensed Practical Nurse (L.P.N.)
- Nurse Practioner
- Midwives
- Pharmacist
- Physical Therapist
- Psychologist
- Respiratory Therapist
- Sanitarian
- Social Worker, Social Worker Technician
- Veterinarian and Veterinary Technician
The purpose of HPRP programs is to support health professionals in their recovery so that they may safely return to practice and protect the safety of the general public.
A HPRP hearing may held during the intake process to determine whether or not the participant is qualified for the HPRP program. A hearing may also take place if the participant is not cooperating with the HPRP. A hearing may also take place to determine whether or not the participant is complying with the treatment plan.
