Hearing Examiner Law and Legal Definition
Hearing Examiner is an official appointed by a government agency to conduct an investigation or administrative hearing in order for the agency to exercise its statutory powers. Hearing examiner is appointed to provide an independent fact-finding and decision-making service for the government. S/he has the responsibility to provide a fair, impartial, and independent fact-finding and decision-making service within government.
Following is an example for a state statute (Nevada) [Nev. Rev. Stat. Ann. § 463.0163] defining the term Hearing Examiner :
Hearing examiner means “a member of the state gaming control board or Nevada gaming commission or other person authorized by the state gaming control board or Nevada gaming commission to conduct investigative hearings”.
