This was an unpopular tax that was levied in the earlier times. Hearth money is also termed as “chimney money.” This was enacted during the reign of Charles II in 1662. Later, in 1688 this practice was abolished. Hearth money is a tax of two shillings which was levied on every fireplace in England.
