Homo sacer Law and Legal Definition
Homo Sacer is a Latin term that means ‘the accursed man.’ The term refers to a person who is banned, or killed by somebody. Such a person is not allowed any civil rights. Legally, the term denotes an exile. If a person looses his/her citizenship status, all rights provided to a citizen is not available to the person. Such a person acquires a status of homo sacer. For example, stateless people and refuges stay in the state of homo sacers. During the Second World War, Jews were stripped out of their citizenship before sending them to concentration camps.
