Horticulture Law and Legal Definition
Horticulture is the science and art of gardening and of cultivating fruits, vegetables, flowers, and ornamental plants. A horticultural variety of a plant is one produced under cultivation, as distinguished from the botanical species or varieties, which occur in nature. The Horticulture and Breeding Unit of the U.S. Department of Agriculture conducts applied and basic research in citrus genetics and breeding, water quality and plant nutrition, and post harvest physiology. States may also regulate the practice of horticulture.
The following is an example of a state statute regulating horticulturists;
"Persons engaging in professional work or services pertaining to entomological work, pathological work, horticultural and floricultural work, and tree surgery work as defined in Section 2-28-1 shall be examined by the commissioner."
