Hospital Education Program [HEP] Law and Legal Definition
The Hospital Education Program (HEP) aims at normalizing hospital stay for children and their families. HEP includes school services and special events. The fundamental goal of HEP is to enable each student, to the full extent of his/ her abilities, to develop the skills that are necessary for success in school and preparation for life. The program provides extracurricular activities and creates additional age-appropriate opportunities for socialization and enrichment. In special circumstances, for children unable to leave their hospital rooms, bedside school sessions are arranged. HEP consultants work to minimize the effects of a child's medical problems on school progress. HEP provides for art and music therapy.
