Host Committee [Federal Elections] Law and Legal Definition
According to 11 CFR 9008.50 [Title 11 -- Federal Elections; Chapter I -- Federal Election Commission; Subchapter E -- Presidential Election Campaign Fund: General Election Financing; Part 9008 -- Federal Financing of Presidential Nominating Conventions; Subpart B -- Host Committees and Municipal Funds Representing a Convention City], a host committee “is any local organization, such as a local civic association, business league, chamber of commerce, real estate board, board of trade, or convention bureau, that satisfies all of the following conditions:
(1) It is not organized for profit;
(2) Its net earnings do not inure to the benefit of any private shareholder or individual; and
(3) Its principal purpose is the encouragement of commerce in the convention city, as well as the projection of a favorable image of the city to convention attendees.”
