Humanitarian Daily Ration (HDR) is an emergency relief meal packaged in a compact and durable container distributed by the U.S. military to hungry civilians in foreign countries. They have shelf-lives of about 3 years. The HDR meet nutritional guidelines and are designed to be acceptable to a variety of religious and ethnic groups. For instance, no pork in meals distributed in Muslim nations.
