Hyphenates (Entertainment law) Law and Legal Definition
Hyphenates in relation to entertainment law refers to a person who does multiple roles in the making of a movie. In some movies an actor will play more than one role. Sometimes the actor may also be the director or the producer is an actor and director in the film. These persons are referred to as hyphenates. Few examples are actor-director, writer-producer, director-producer-writer.
This system of hyphenating may reduce the cost in making a movie. Nowadays it is seen that in order to obtain the services of some actors they have to be offered a package which includes other roles like distribution. Thus, they may have a creative participation also in the movie.
