IAEA Material Balance Area [Energy] Law and Legal Definition
According to 10 CFR 75.4 [Title 10 – Energy; Chapter I -- Nuclear Regulatory Commission; Part 75 -- Safeguards on Nuclear Material -- Implementation of US/IAEA Agreement; General Provisions], the term IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency) Material Balance Area means “an area established for IAEA material accounting purposes, so that:
(1) The quantity of nuclear material in each transfer into or out of each material balance area can be determined; and
(2) The physical inventory of nuclear material in each material balance area can be determined when necessary in accordance with specified procedures.”
