Ibi Esse Poenam, Ubi Et Nox Est Law and Legal Definition
Ibi esse poenam, ubi et nox est is a principle of the Roman law. It means where the crime is, there the punishment should be also. To be exact, the punishment should be in the same place as the guilt. It precluded forfeiture as a punishment of posterity.
