Idem Sonans Law and Legal Definition
Idem sonans is a Latin term meaning sounding the same or similar; having the same sound. It is a legal doctrine in which a person's identity is presumed known despite the misspelling of his or her name. It is sometimes applied in the context of a UCC financing statement if there is a minor difference in spelling. The doctrine of idem sonans may find the error is not fatal, as long as it is not seriously misleading.
