III [Triple-Eye] Law and Legal Definition
III means interstate identification index. It is system that is maintained by the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) that stores criminal histories of offenders in the United States. The data is stored in the form of a national index.
The system compiles and stores information relating to persons who have been arrested or indicted for serious criminal offense all around the U.S. The criminal history of a particular individual can be obtained using the search option of the III. history on a given person.
An investigator or analyst can then get the specific criminal history of the individual by contacting those states either through the National Law Enforcement Telecommunications System or by other means. Therefore, the III increases the chances of catching criminal offenders.
