Immigration applicant refers to a person who makes a formal request for a visa or Green Card. In most cases, an applicant who wishes to immigrate to the U.S. must be supported by another person called a 'petitioner' (also referred to as a 'sponsor'). A Green Card is generally, valid only for ten years and should be renewed before the expiry. An application to renew or replace a Green Card is made on Form I-90.
