Imparlance is a continuance or extension granted for the purpose of giving the requesting party further time to answer the opposite party’s last pleading. This period granted may be used by the parties to settle the dispute. The term imparlance is also used to refer to a petition for a continuance and also the authorization granting such a continuance.
