Importer number is an identification number allotted by the U.S. Customs Service to each importer to track entries and other transactions. It is usually the IRS business tax number assigned to businesses. To obtain an importer number one must file out a form 5106 and submit to the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) entry branch where you will be filing your customs entries.[19 CFR 24.5]
