Inconsistent Defense Law and Legal Definition
Inconsistent defense refers to a defense that is so contrary to another defense that the acceptance of one requires abandonment of the other. For example, a person accused of murder cannot claim self defense as well as the alibi of having been in a different city when the murder took place.
