Independent Agency Law and Legal Definition
Independent agencies exist outside the federal executive departments. Independent agency is a federal agency, commission, or board that is not under the direction of the executive. Independent agency is also known as independent regulatory agency or independent regulatory commission. The Federal Trade Commission and the National Labor Relations Board are examples of an independent agency. These agencies are established through separate statutes passed by Congress.
