Independent System Operator Law and Legal Definition
Pursuant to 16 USCS § 796 (28), [Title 16. Conservation; Chapter 12. Federal Regulation and Development of Power; Regulation of the Development of Water Power and Resources] the term Independent System Operator or ISO means “an entity approved by the Commission--
(A) to exercise operational or functional control of facilities used for the transmission of electric energy in interstate commerce; and
(B) to ensure nondiscriminatory access to the facilities.”
