Indian Tribal Organization Law and Legal Definition
According to 7 CFR 271.2 [Title 7. Agriculture; Subtitle B. Regulations Of The Department Of Agriculture; Chapter II. Food And Nutrition Service, Department Of Agriculture; Subchapter C Food Stamp And Food Distribution Program; Part 271 General Information And Definitions], ‘indian tribal organization (ITO)’ means “(1) The recognized governing body of any Indian tribe on a reservation; or (2) the tribally recognized intertribal organization which the recognized governing bodies of two or more Indian tribes on a reservation authorizes to operate the Food Stamp Program or a Food Distribution Program on their behalf.”
