Innocent Owner Law and Legal Definition
In a forfeiture action, an innocent owner is one that:
a. was not involved in the wrongful activity;
b. was not aware of the wrongful activity; and
c. had done all that he reasonably could be expected to prevent the proscribed use of his property. [United States v. One Rural Lot, 739 F. Supp. 74, 76 (D.P.R. 1990)].
