Inpatient Care Law and Legal Definition
Inpatient care refers to the health care given to patients who are admitted in hospital or skilled nursing facility. It involves an overnight stay in a hospital, hospice or residential medical care facility, for treatment during the period of incapacity or inability to work, attend school or perform other regular daily activities due to the serious health condition.
Medicare part A covers inpatient care in hospitals, skilled nursing facility, and certain home health care services including critical access hospitals. Inpatient mental health care services are also covered by medicare.
