Institutional Broker Law and Legal Definition
Institutional broker means a broker who buys and sells securities for institutional clients such as banks, mutual funds, pension funds, and insurance companies. Since institutional brokers trade for larger volumes of securities, the commission fees charged by institutional brokers are less when compared to retail brokers. Although the commission received by an institutional broker is small, it will add up to a significant amount, because they generally specialize in investors such as hedge funds and banks.
