Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Law and Legal Definition
Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) is defined as a comprehensive, participatory planning and implementation tool for managing and developing water resources by balancing social and economic needs, and ensuring the protection of ecosystems for future generations at the same time. IWRM brings together decision makers across the various sectors that impact water resources, and also brings the stakeholders to set policy and make balanced decisions in response to specific water challenges. In the developing countries, one of the major fields of focus is to increase the participation of women in drinking water and sanitation projects. International Water Management Institute (IWMI), UNESCO and International Water and Sanitation Centre are some of the institutes that are performing research in this area.
