Internic Network Solutions is the company commissioned by the U.S. government to administer the assignment of domain names for the following top level domains: .EDU, .COM, .NET, .ORG, and .GOV. Internic Network Solutions' domain name dispute policy has received wide-spread criticism for its bias towards trademark owners. Internic Network Solutions distribute domain names through an automated system. Internic, short for Internet Network Information Center was the Internet governing body primarily responsible for domain name and IP address allocations. Now, the function is by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN).
