Interpreter Law and Legal Definition
An interpreter is a person sworn at a judicial proceeding to translate oral or written language into another language. An interpreter translates court hearings from a second language to English. An interpreter is provided to the person who needs the interpreter in all cases where the person's life, freedom, children or housing are at risk of being lost. An interpreter is provided at state expense. Interpreters are provided in criminal and child support cases. Normally, interpreters are not available for divorce or any other civil case
