Intruder Barrier [Energy] Law and Legal Definition
According to 10 CFR 61.2 [Title 10 – Energy; Chapter I -- Nuclear Regulatory Commission; Part 61 -- Licensing Requirements for Land Disposal of Radioactive Waste; Subpart A -- General Provisions], the term intruder barrier means “a sufficient depth of cover over the waste that inhibits contact with waste and helps to ensure that radiation exposures to an inadvertent intruder will meet the performance objectives set forth in this part, or engineered structures that provide equivalent protection to the inadvertent intruder.”
