Ipsative Assessment Law and Legal Definition
Ipsative assessment is a test in which the tested individual is compared to himself/ herself in the same domain through time or in comparison with other domains. Literally the term ipsative means "of the self". In ipsative measurement respondents compare two or more desirable options and pick the one most preferred.
Assessment of one person’s present performance with his/her prior performance is also termed as ipsative assessment. The present performance is assessed against performance in the past. In athletics, personal best is an example of ipsative assessment. This assessment encourages people to break their previous score. The assessment can improve motivation in the candidates.
