Ipsissima Verba Law and Legal Definition
Ipsissima verba is a Latin term for "the very words." It refers to an established authority, that a writer or speaker is quoting or referring to. When an attorney or judge refers to the exact words used by some authority it can be termed ipsissima verba. In most of the judgments, judges quote valid sentences that refer to similar issue and use them as precedents. The use of the very words of an authority is ipsissima verba.
