IRS Law and Legal Definition
IRS or Internal Revenue Service is the Federal agency that governs the internal revenue of the country. It is a bureau of the Department of Treasury. This Federal agency collects taxes and enforces the Federal tax laws embodied in the Internal Revenue Code. IRS currently operates through ten service centers in the country, and has its National Capital Offices at greater Washington, D.C. The IRS centers are responsible for processing different types of taxes.
