Jail or Lockup for Adults Law and Legal Definition
According to 42 USCS § 5603 [Title 42. The Public Health And Welfare; Chapter 72. Juvenile Justice And Delinquency Prevention; Generally], the term "jail or lockup for adults" means “a locked facility that is used by a State, unit of local government, or any law enforcement authority to detain or confine adults:
(A) pending the filing of a charge of violating a criminal law;
(B) awaiting trial on a criminal charge; or
(C) convicted of violating a criminal law.”
