Jettison [Aeronautics and Space] Law and Legal Definition
According to 14 CFR 1214.102 (d) [Title 14 Aeronautics and Space; Chapter V National Aeronautics and Space Administration; Part 1214 Space Flight; Subpart 1214.1 General Provisions Regarding Space Shuttle Flights of Payloads for Non-U.S. Government, Reimbursable Customers], the term jettison means “to physically separate all or a portion of a payload from the Shuttle after liftoff of the Shuttle without the intent of fulfilling the payload operations requirements agreed to by NASA and the customer.”
