us banci is a Latin term which means ‘the right of bench.’ It means the right or privilege of having a raised and separate seat of judgment. It was formerly allowed only to the king’s judges who administered high justice. Hence, jus banci properly belongs to the king's judges, who administer justice in the last resort.
