Jus Disponendi Law and Legal Definition
Jus disponendi is a Latin phrase which means “the right to dispose of a thing.” Jus disponendi is generally used to signify the right of alienation. For example, historically a married woman is deprived of the jus disponendi over her separate estate. This term has significance in law relating to sale of goods where it is often a question whether the vendor of goods has the intention of reserving to himself/herself the jus disponendi i. e., of preventing the ownership from passing to the purchaser, notwithstanding that s/he (the vendor) has parted with the possession of the goods.
